The Drums for Peace movement was born in 2000 as an initiative from the Alliance for a Responsible, Plural and United World, an informal group that gathers organizations and people who work collectively worldwide towards social changes that meet the challenges set by the 21st century.
The Drums for Peace world’s organization in the years 2000 and 2001 was carried out byAssociação Nova Center for Social Innovation in Barcelona, and in Brazil by Imagens Educação.

In those meetings, each group could make known their proposals in their cities regarding a more pacific and united world, by playing the “Drums For Peace”. A number of 60 thousand people were reported to have taken part all over the world. In Brazil, at SESC SP (Commerce Social Service) and the Alliance were the event organizers together with Imagens Educação. Around 40 thousand people were reported to have taken part in the meetings held at the Sesc’s units in São Paulo and other states in Brazil. Institutions, NGO’s, schools, artists, educators, social movement leaders and ordinary citizens showed their wish to awaken awareness for a more just and united world. This movement was supported by many institutions such as Pólis Institute, Sou da Paz, Rede Mundial de Artistas em Aliança, Cives, Ação Educativa, Instituto Ecoar, Movimento Ética é Cidadania – Psicodrama da Cidade, ABONG...
