Workshop on the Building of Rhythm and Percussion Instruments at BMA (Central Library) BMA1.- Bilblioteca Mário de Andrade da Secretaria Municipal de Cultura de São Paulo – together with COE – Special Coordination for Black Population Issues of São Paulo City Hall – offered during March, April and May a workshop on the building of rhythm and percussion instruments under the coordination of composer and percussionist Lumumba. The workshops took place every Thursday from 14:00 to 17:00 and on Saturdays from 9:00 to 12:00 until May 8th. The ultimate goal was the creation of a Drums Orchestra. The Orchestra’s launch happened on 13th May 2003 in front of the library at D. José Gaspar square at 17h30 together with the release of the new site and the video Drums for Peace and the booklet Propositions for Century 21st by the Alliance for a Responsible, Plural and United World. 1.The city’central library named after Mário de Andrade, a Brazilian writer of the 20’s.
